Sandtemple — A Seaside Sanctuary

Tucked gently on a narrow sand spit between Cremorne Beach and Pipe Clay Lagoon, Sandtemple is a humble beachfront shack with water on both sides and nature at every turn.

Watch surfers and kiteboarders dance on the waves from the eastern deck, and catch the Aurora or a glowing sunset from the western one. It’s a tiny home where the sun both rises and sets over water—a rare kind of magic.

Slow down. Soak in the outdoor tub. Wander the beach and coastal trails. Share the garden with pademelons and wallabies. This is a place to breathe, to reconnect, and to simply be.

Just 30 minutes from Hobart, Sandtemple feels a world away.

Lovingly restored from its 1940s roots, the shack is built with salvaged and sustainably sourced timber, filled with handcrafted touches and books collected from our travels. Let the sea lull you to sleep in soft linen on a comfy queen bed, and wake to morning light pouring through every window. Every outlook is water, every breeze carries the scent of salt and wildflowers.

The kitchen is well-stocked and the pantry full of staples—plus a shelf of cookbooks to inspire slow meals. Outside, coastal daisies guide you to a quiet bench for morning coffee or sunset wine. Follow the boobyalla path to the hidden bath and beach beyond.

Simple on the outside, Sandtemple stays true to the Tasmanian shack spirit—unpolished, heartfelt, and deeply connected to the landscape.

Located on the South Arm Peninsula, you’re within 10 minutes of nine beaches and countless walking tracks. It’s raw and untouristed—perfect for surfing, kiting, cold water dips, horse riding, aurora spotting, or just breathing in fresh sea air. Wildlife roams freely here—pademelons, bandicoots, even the occasional echidna.

Sandtemple is more than a stay—it’s a piece of our life we’re sharing with you. In summer, this is our home. The rest of the year, while we sail the world, it’s yours to enjoy.

We care deeply for this place and work gently with it. From bush and dune regeneration, to supporting local makers and employing local staff, to using eco-friendly products and preserving native habitat—everything we do is about treading lightly.

We hope Sandtemple brings you rest, inspiration, and reconnection. Come settle in and slow down—you won’t want to leave.

There’s ample parking and a security gate for privacy. Self-check-in details will be sent before your arrival.

Please note:

  • Due to outdoor stairs, Sandtemple isn’t wheelchair accessible (though the interior is all on one level).

  • To protect the fragile coastal environment, we ask that you leave pets at home.

  • Sandtemple isn’t suitable for children or babies, as we’re surrounded by water.
